Discover the End of the World in Finisterre

Finisterre is the traditional final stop on the Camino de Santiago and was once thought to be the most western point of Europe (hence the dramatic name!). From here, travel by bus along the infamous Costa de Morte, stopping in the fishing towns of Muxia and Muros, and seeing the dramatic 155m tall waterfall, Cascada de Ezaro. A day tour to the place where the Romans believed it was the end of the world is something many pilgrims remember for years to come.

This tour to Finisterre and the Coast of Death includes stops in; Ponte Maceira, Carnota for panoramic views, Ézaro waterfall, the lighthouse and town of Finisterre, Muxía, and Giant Traditional Granary of Ozón.

You will see:

Murosa fishing coastal town with a great harbour.

Cascada do Ézaro – an amazing waterfall 155m high, the only waterfall in Europe that flows straight to the ocean.

Fisterraa rocky coast that Romans believed was the end of the Earth. Nowadays, it’s home to the lighthouse, Monte Facho.

Muxiaa coastal town and sacred place full of legends and beauty, it’s the final destination of the pilgrims from the Camino de Santiago.

Depart Santiago: The meeting time and point is 9am at Plaza de Galicia (at the corner of the Santander Bank next to the Compostela Hotel). The guide will be waiting on the corner. The return point is the same place at 6pm.

Santiago de Compostela may be the spiritual end to the Camino, but this tour will take visitors to where the land meets the sea to enjoy breathtaking natural views and the sight of a traditional Galician way of living.

Our first stop is Ponte Maceira, a peaceful enclave near Santiago de Compostela with a 14th Century bridge spanning the Tambre River and a series of mediaeval mills. Next stop is the historic port of Muros, which boasts impressive views along the whole estuary. Continuing down the coast a few kilometres, between the ocean and Mount Pindo, is Ézaro waterfall, the most famous waterfall in Galicia and the point where the Xallas River meets the sea.

Our next destination is Cape Fisterra (Finisterre), with its dramatic lighthouse. This was the ‘end of the world’ in the Greek and Roman civilisations. It’s also the official end point of the Camino de Santiago. Having taken in this monumental place, we go down to the town of Fisterra for lunch and free time to walk through the traditional town and its active fishing port.

The final tour stop is Muxía, the other possible end point of this leg of the Camino de Santiago. A beautiful sanctuary at the edge of the Atlantic Ocean, it offers a quieter and more contemplative termination for the pilgrim route than the more notable Cape Fisterra.
